Map of the Month - May 2024

May 2024’s Map of the Month shows the distribution of Japanese Knotweed records in Hull and East Yorkshire!

NEYEDC is often approached by partner organisations to map species distribution records to inform conservation and management measures. This can be for a specific species or a more general taxonomic group. For INNS Week, which runs from the 20th - 26th May 2024, we’re choosing to feature distribution mapping of the invasive plant Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica), which we originally mapped as part of a contractual obligation for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, including the Hull area, in 2018. The second map shows an updated distribution using records to the present day from the NEYEDC database.

Invasive Species Week, or INNS Week, aims to increase awareness of invasive non-native species, their impacts on the environment, and what you can do to help: Invasive Species Week » NNSS (nonnativespecies.org)
