Map of the Month - October 2023

October 2023’s Map of the Month is a UKHAB map of North Moor, Dawnay Estate!

In addition to species data, we also hold, analyse, digitise, and disseminate a range of habitat data from across the region. On this occasion NEYEDC was approached by Richard Baines, of Wold Ecology, to digitise habitat surveys of three contrasting 1km squares of the Wykeham Estate in North Yorkshire. The aim was for the results of the mapping, including the area of each polygon, to be fed into a Biodiversity Audit of the area and result in a Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) calculation of the three 1km squares. For NEYEDC the work involved using aerial photographs and georeferenced field maps to locate and digitise different habitats, before recording them using the UK Habitat Classification system (UKHab).
